the Black Male Development Symposium 2014 THE BMDS COMMUNITY MEETING
At the Black Male Development Symposium we set up a table and spoke with young men about our project. Many asked if they could take a photo and be the first to tweet on behalf of our hashtag #LTT2015 "Tweets for Trayvon" campaign!
The summer event created by the Black Male Development Symposium, brought hundreds of boys and men of color from all over the country to discuss issues of race, empowerment, and justice. At the BMDS Community Meeting, we had an opportunity to provide a sneak peek into the project and garner support from a number of potential agencies providing services that directly impact the lives of black men and boys. In September 2014, President Obama issued a challenge to cities, towns, counties and tribes across the country to become “MBK Communities.” The MBK Community Challenge encourages communities (cities, rural municipalities, and tribal nations) to implement a coherent cradle-to-college-and-career strategy for improving the life outcomes of all young people to ensure that they can reach their full potential, regardless of who they are, where they come from, or the circumstances into which they are born.
